Connie was born in Arizona, to Alice Aguilar and Ben Barela.
Connie attended community college at SJDC, where she met the love of her life, her husband, Harry Maxey. She worked at Presentation School until 1974, where she met and continued her relationship with the BVM Sisters who stayed a very active part of our family. She cared for the BVM Sisters of her congregation until they retired and moved back east in the early 2000’s. After working at the school, she decided to work retail for Weinstocks, where eventually, a passion for shoes started. She and her friend Marylin started a high-end women's shoe store in Stockton, Ca, called “Footnotes.” After losing the store to a fire, she spent the next 20 years as a bilingual aid at Harrison Elementary School.
She was a devoted Catholic and dedicated a lot of her time to her church. She loved to spend time with her family and friends; dancing, swimming, going to the beach, watching tennis, and golfing. She was also a die-hard San Francisco 49er fan which was well-known around the neighborhood.
Connie was a beautiful, strong, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her three children, Manuel Maxey, Mary Cathleen Dorman (Dennis), and Madalena Romero (Mark); her grandchildren, Christina Maxey, Gregg Storrs, Sarah Guy (Matt), Rory Storrs Sr. (Shannon), Alicia Skipper (Brandon), and Sonia Romero; and great grandchildren, Mattasin, Kaydence, Joey, Caleb, Jax, Brock, Masin, Rory Jr, and Parker.
Connie is also survived by her sister Margaret Orozco and their nieces and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Maxey, her parents, and Aunt ‘Comadre’ Josie Duncan.
