It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Carl Isaacs who passed at home on February 21st. Carl will be remembered as an extraordinary man of uncompromising ethics, high integrity, unwavering loyalty and an enduring work ethic. Commitment to his faith, family, business and a lifelong love of athletics were the fundamentals that sustained Carl throughout his life. A voracious reader, avid crossword puzzler, writer of puns and fan of snail-mail letters, we will miss his sage guidance, dry wit, ‘Dad’ humor and corny missives.
Carl was born in Stockton, attended Stockton High and went on to graduate from Stanford University. After a brief stint in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, he returned to Stanford and earned his MBA. Carl then relocated back to Stockton to pursue a career in real estate. Little did he know, he would spend 57 years in the business as a Real Estate Broker, business owner, investor, mentor, expert witness and instructor at Delta College.
Carl began his athletic pursuits in his 3rd year of high school where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. As a student athlete at Stanford, he lettered in all 3 sports as a freshman, dropping baseball in his sophomore year to focus on football and basketball. He was one of the few athletes at the time to earn 2 varsity letters in each of these sports. Carl received All-Coast recognition and honorable mention as an All-American in football. He was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game in 1956. Alongside teammates John Brodie and Paul Wiggins, he was the leading receiver of the game and helped the West defeat the favored East team. In 1984, Carl was inducted into the Stockton Athletic Hall of Fame.
As an outlet for his competitive spirit, Carl later enjoyed recreational basketball, tennis and swimming. He also channeled his love of sports into support for UOP athletics serving as President of the Quarterback Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the Pacific Athletic Foundation, the KJOY football announcer, a football statistician and the official basketball scorekeeper throughout the years.
A man of faith, Carl attended services and participated in various leadership roles at the Central United Methodist Church until his passing.
Carl is survived by Jan Isaacs, his wife of 33 years, his children Allison Isaacs, Stacey Isaacs-Wolf (Chuck) and John Isaacs (Sarah). He was the proud grandfather of William Ferreira and Ryan Isaacs. Carl also leaves behind his sister Carlita Buettner and niece Shelly Allurd-Troop (Andy).
Carl's Celebration of Life has been postponed until further notice.
