Barbara Deolinda da Rosa Soares was born on September 14, 1929 in Santa Barbara das Ribieras, Pico, Azores. She was the daughter of Jorge Antonio da Rosa and Maria Isabel Lial da Rosa. Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side.
Barbara immigrated to the United States in 1952 at the age of 23. She was married to her beloved husband Manuel M. Soares for 55 years. She is survived by her four children; Manuel G. Soares and his wife Lucille, Rosemary Peets and her husband Brian, Norman M. Soares and his wife Lynn and Leupoldina I. Scherff and her husband Eric; and her six grandchildren David, William, Kevin, Lanvin,
Ryan, Matthew; and her four great grandchildren Felicity, Audrey, Ethan and Zachary.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to cook for family and friends, and you would certainly never leave her home hungry. She lived at her residence for over 63 years. Barbara was a talented seamstress and very gifted in the art of filet crochet. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Manuel and took several trips to Europe and the Azores Islands. She also enjoyed her time traveling in the RV to Santa Cruz, fishing off the pier with her sole mate and best friend Manuel. She also attended Portuguese festas, donating her time baking the traditional Portuguese sweet bread. She was an avid soccer fan and supported her favorite team “Sporting" of Lisbon. Barbara loved playing pinochle and canasta with family. She enjoyed her rose garden and making Portuguese dishes.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A mass of Christian burial for Barbara will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 5882 N. Ashley Lane, Stockton, California. Following the mass of Christian burial will be a committal at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 E. Harding Way, Stockton, California.
