I wrote a poem in honor of my moma, due to the fact of the virus, the reason why there were hardly anyone at her funeral.
                                              Perhaps you sent a lovely card,
                                                   or spoke the kindest words.
                                          Perhaps you sent beautiful flowers,
                                          that will bloom in our darkest hour.
                                        Perhaps you were unable to be there,
                                     though your thoughts and prayers were.
                               Perhaps you stayed in your car or just drove by,
                             in fear of the virus that kept you from our side.
                                       For your love helped our broken hearts,
                                                  even though we were far apart.

Shirley loved to go camping with us every chance she could. The most recent one was when we took Shirley to Richard B. Russell State Park. She hasn't been there in many years, that she forgot how it looked. While we were there, a tornado came through Elberton on the other side of the lake from where we were staying. We had to leave the camp-site and shelter in the middle part between the bath-houses. It was tight in there and Shirley doesn't like closed places. It finally was over and we got to go back to the camper, and another tornado was coming through the next day, and Shirley said, are ya'll ready to leave, we all look at one another and we could tell she was ready to get out of there. We packed up and left. That was our last camping trip we had with Shirley. It was one we all will never forget.

Shirley and I first met at East Clayton elementary and became best friends.  We went on many trips together throughout the years. Our most memorable times were going to the country music shows in Hiawassee and staying at my cabin.  We bonded like sisters and I love her children also.

I remember the smile on Nana’s face every time we was going to the beach. 

Nana was a very special woman to me. I looked up at her as a Mother, and she treated and loved me like one of her own kids. She was everything to me and I love and miss my Nana.  I have so much more to say, but I was trying to keep it short.

Nana was someone I could talk to about any problems that I may have been having. I love her.

Nana took time out of her day many times to pick me up from after-school and took me to get something to eat or sometimes take me and brother to the movies. I love and miss her.

Mom and I would take trips together all the time.  Once we took a cruise to the Bahamas and Key West with Misty. Many trips to the mountains camping at Vogel State Park and Nottley River.  Moma loved to go to the Georgia Mountain Fair to the country music.  We would sit there for hours listening to difference country music stars.  But the beach was her favorite destination, of all.  Moma would sit there on the balcony, a covered place or on the beach with her big umbrella watching the ocean and the waves.  Moma loved going to the beach with anyone of us.  She just wanted to go.  I am so fortunate  to have taken my moma the last time she was able.  We had a good time as always. (2018).  Some quotes I found:  A mother is GOD'S way of saying "Thought you could use a lifelong friend". All that I am I owe to my Mama.  You're the mom everyone wishes they had.  Happiness is mother and daughter time. And the LOVE between a mother and daughter knows no DISTANCE.  YOU SEE I HAD THE BEST MOTHER YOU COULD EVERY HAVE.  GOD BLESSED ME WITH TWO AWESOME PARENTS I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU BOTH.

One of my earliest memories of Nana was when Cindy and I first started dating. We were all in the North Georgia Mountains camping. We were sitting around the campfire one night, Nana looked over and asked me, Eddie do you play any musical instruments?  I said no, she turned to Cindy and said "You need to trade him in".  Everybody laughed but that is one time I am glad my Honey didn't listen to her mom.

I would like to share a childhood memory about my mama.  See we were going on a camping trip to the Georgia mountains.  My dad had put a traveling rack on top of the car.  It held our suitcases and food.  Since there were 5 of us, we had a lot.  Mama had planned the trip from a menu to toys and games for us kids.  We all got in the car after going to the bathroom.  Mama didn't want her eggs to get broken so she held them in her lap.  We were singing riding down the road to 285.  When all the sudden one of the suitcases blew off the top of the car onto the expressway.  My dad pulled off on the shoulder of 285.  My mama gets out of the car and starts across the expressway to get her suitcase when a car hits it and clothes go everywhere.  My dad was hollering Shirley get back in this car before you get yourself killed.  She was still holding on to those eggs.  Mama was just a crying saying Raymond I stood up and ironed our clothes for nothing. Now we don't have any clean clothes to wear for our trip.  We stopped at a store to pick up some grease remover. Because after we sat up the tent mama and dad were sitting around the camp scrubbing the grease out of their clothes.  And we still had a great time.

The memory that stands out the most to me in my time with Nana,  She took me and my sister Tiffany to Indian Springs one weekend, it was supposed to be a weekend camping trip but it got cut short.  Just a few hours after we got set up at the camp site, I got into a wasp nest and was stung head to toe over 30 times. I remember Nana bought a pack if cigarettes and unrolled most of the pack and covered each sting with the tobacco and bandages.  She then started the journey home, and the whole time I was afraid i wasn't going to make it out of this ordeal alive.   She tried her hardest not to laugh at me as i was worried over and over that i was at my end.
Wish I could go camping with her one more time.

Nana was a great grandmother to me. It was right before she fell, I had an appointment to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Me and mom show up at the orthodontics, get out and go in, and Nana was sitting right there waiting on me. She stayed with mom out in the waiting room until they were finished with me. Nana helped mom put me in the truck and followed us home. Nana brought me some pudding and Jell-O  to eat, since I couldn't eat nothing else. She stayed with me while mom went and picked Gage up from school. She stayed here with me until she knew I was alright. That's the kind of Nana I had. The one that cared about everybody else, except her. I love and miss her.

It was about a year after Brent and I were married, we had Shirley and Raymond down for dinner. That night I had cooked cubed steak with homemade biscuits and gravy,mashed potatoes,green beans and fried okra.
 Well, we all sat down and everyone was eating Shirley said, this is good! I said thank you (keep in mind she was on her second piece of steak with the last bite in her mouth) I looked at her and said ,YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS DON'T YOU? she said what, (and with a smile I said deer meat) And do you know she spit that last piece of meat out of her mouth and said I'm not 
eaten here again, but of course she did. That is the funniest memory that I have of Shirley I sure will miss her, loved her so.

My favorite memory of Nana was when Nana came over to our house and got in our pool and she said "Oooh that's cold" and she wanted to get out of the pool but we convinced her to stay in for a bit. 

Another one is when Nana came over and spent the night and my dad was out of town and me, mom, brother, and Nana all had a pillow fight. 

I remember a long time ago, we all went to a park to visit. There was this big slide there. Moma had on this mint green out-fit made of nylon I think. Well Cindy, Brent, and me Trina climbed up the slide and came down. Diddy said Shirley it's your turn. Moma said will you catch me. He said yes I promise. Moma climbed up and she came flying down so fast she went right between my diddy's legs and fell on the ground. All of us couldn't do nothing but laugh, except for moma, she got hurt. It bruised her hip bad. She said Raymond I thought you said you were going to catch me. He couldn't do nothing but laugh. I think about that all the time. I wish that I could find that place and go back to see if the slide was still there. I miss her so much. I hope she knows how much she is missed. I love you moma.

Cindy I am very sorry for the loss of your mom. She was such a sweet lady. I remember talking to her everyday up at McDonalds while Hunter, Ethan and Miranda played. You would bring her flowers and she would smile so big. 
We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Shirley was a beautiful Mother and wife, I am Blessed to have got to know  Ms Shirley !! She will be miss so much bye so many who loved her!!! I know she is in Heave with her sweet Husband Raymond singing and rejoicing with our Heavenly Father !!! My  Prayers and my thoughts are with Shirley Family!! God Bless!! We love y’all !!!

Feisty like her childhood dog pictured here, when mom worked as a waitress, she ran her legs off for a group of 4. As they were finishing their lunch heading to their car, momma realized they left her a nickel tip. Furious she grabbed the lonely nickel, went outside and threw it at them and told them to keep it that they needed more than she did.

I have to many memories to just put one ! I love you Ain't Shirley. I will miss you so much. If I have to leave a memory because Shirley loved to laugh. It would be the time Shirley fell out of the truck while Uncle Raymond was driving and took her pocketbook with her. She was just sitting in the road with her pocketbook. Maybe the time she locked herself out of the car without her teeth in. So, so many funny stories. Always a laugh. Every time I went to see her she was either boiling eggs or in the bathroom! Same ole smell!! I love you, give my Mama and Daddy a big hug and kiss for me, and tell Uncle Raymond I said here kitty kitty LOL !!!

I remember the time when nana got on the 4wheeler with me and i hit the gas and she bought fell off. She hollered Gracie! We both laughed. That was my favorite memory. Nana was and still is a great grandma and i will always you you Nana and I miss you so much. Tell Papa that I said hi and that I love and miss him to.

I remember when my moma scared me half to death. It was back when women put face mask on and my moma had one own her face. I was outside and I come running in the house and she was hiding behind the refrigerator, and jumped out and said boo. It scared me so bad I ran back outside. Moma laughed for years about that. I guess that was about 45 years ago. I will miss my moma dearly. She was the best mom in the world. No one could ever fill her shoes. I know God called her home and I have to let her go. She will always be in my heart. Come visit me, I will be looking for you. I love you moma.

Grew up next door in Rex. Her daughter and I are best friends like sisters. Went camping in Florida with them, camping in the mountains, Hiawassee fair. Gonna miss this sweet momma. But she’s in no more pain

I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to meet this wonderful lady who shared her family Thanksgiving with me a few years back. I thought what a wonderful and special lady she was so nice to me. She reminded me of my own grandmother so kind and caring making sure I had gotten enough to eat. I must let you know that she made the Best lemon pie that I have EVER eaten in my life! She tried to tell me that it was too tart and that she put too much lemon in it. I told her no way it was absolutely the best I had ever eaten. I’ll never forget her and her lemon pie!!! My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad and difficult time.

We are surely going to miss her she was my 2 cousin she was a sweet lady and always were a smile on her face and was kind to all that she knew and she is now with our blessed Lord and with all her loved ones that went on before her we will see her again one day praying for the family love you all chuck sandra kalli rice barbara rice's son

Aunt Shirley will be missed. She loved her family.  She is at peace and with Uncle Raymond now. Love ya'll 

Sister Shirley was a very sweet and awesome lady she was always happy when you see her I can just see her and Raymond together again love them both so very much.

She would always tell me that God has a plan for us or it was in his plan.

No matter what we were talking about.
I remember when. I got and I left the church.
Every time she would see us she inviters is to come back and told Victor we need you brother.
It always meant a lot to us for to invite us back to visit. But that’s just kind of lady she was !
Always kind and sweet and I never heard her complain about anything, guess it was because it was part of Gods plan as she said to me many times.

Sister Shirley was a special Lady.   She  was always kind and sweet.  I will always remember her sweet smile.   On Sunday’s at church you could look over where she was setting and she would give you a big smile.  Sister Shirley was a blessing .   She loved everyone and made everyone feel a part of her family.    She was a  example of strength and courage and compassion and her testimony let others know, She loved the lord.   She will be missed by all.   Thoughts and prayers for her family .

I am so very sorry to hear of  your  moms passing. She was a special kind of lady and I have many memories from long ago of her and your dad. One particular, that will always be special to me, was when she asked me to please let my son Todd go home with them  for the afternoon one Sunday  after church. Such a special lady, such a special family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.  

Sister Shirley was always such a hoot she always had jokes and made me smile! She was a kindhearted beautiful soul! She will truly be missed but heaven is celebrating! Love and prayers to her family!

We are so sorry for the loss of Aunt Shirley. She was always a joy to be around.  My Mother has so many fond memories of her, Uncle Raymond and my Dad when they were all young. I know you will miss her terribly, but no doubt, she is rejoicing in Heaven with Uncle Raymond and all who have gone before her.  We love you and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
