Roy was born on December 27, 1931 to Thomas M and Delilah Dunn of Midway, Florida, but he referred to Live Oak, Florida as his home. He was happily married to Laura Sollomi Dunn for 62 years where he thrived as a dedicated family man to his children and grandchildren (as well as many who called him uncle even though they may not have been biologically related). A dedicated patriot, he served his country for 21 years in the United States Air Force both stateside and abroad. Once he retired from the USAF, he worked for a time with his sister at the S.J. Durrance Trucking Company in Forest Park. After trying his hand at a few other careers, he landed at Lance, Inc. where he was affectionately known to many as the “Lance Man” providing merchants as well as the neighborhood children with cookies, crackers, chips and various treats for 15 years.
Roy had a servant’s heart. Not only did he serve his country, but he enjoyed serving his community. He served his neighborhood by collaborating with local law enforcement and starting a Neighborhood Watch program. He served as PTA president at Morrow Elementary School as well as being an active member of the Morrow Senior High Band Boosters. He was also a member of the Forest Park Kiwanis Club where he served as club president. Finally, he spent his final working years serving the special needs students of Clayton County as their bus driver. Even while serving in all of these capacities, he managed to make time for wood crafts which he created with his wife, Laura. These crafts brought smiles to many faces.
Roy was preceded in death by his son Dean Lee Dunn of Fairfield, California and his wife, Laura Sollomi Dunn of Lake City, Georgia. Roy is survived by his daughter Dottie Corbin (husband Jim) of Rex, Georgia and son, Gene Dunn (wife Janet) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, 4 grandchildren, Morgan Corbin (fiancé Kaylan Coker) of Roswell, Danielle Chapman (husband James) of Social Circle, Kara Hawkins (husband Chris) of Americus, Bekah Dunn of Savannah and two great-grandchildren with a third on the way!
