Ronald "Ronnie" was born to Irby Foster and Ina Ruth Ellington in 1944. He grew up in East Atlanta and played high school basketball. After graduation he met Cheryl and they were married in 1965. In 1966 he joined the US Army and served as a Military Police Officer, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War.
After his return from overseas, Ronnie began his career as a mechanical engineer and after a few years he and Cheryl started their family, first welcoming son Jason then daughter Erica. Ronnie was promoted to "Poppy" after the birth of his beloved grandson, Aaron. After retirement, he continued to work in sales before fully enjoying his retirement. He loved music and trivia - a love that he passed down to his children. He enjoyed gambling trips and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Irby Foster and Ina Ruth Ellington and one sister Diane Phillips. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Cheryl Ellington; son, Jason Ellington; daughter, Erica Ellington; grandson, Aaron Ellington; sister, Cathy (Jimmy) Whitelaw; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A visitation of family and friends will be held for Ronald on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. Following the visitation will be military honors and a celebration of Ron's life at 2:00 PM in Ward's Chapel.
