Fred L. Schimel

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Marianne [nee Behrens]. He will be missed by his sons Paul (Brandi) and Brian (Kristen). He was the doting grandfather of Abby, Nate and Jeffrey. He was also the fond uncle of three nephews. He will be remembered by countless others.

Fred was born and raised in the Stickney community and was known to many in the area. He acted as a village trustee for 12 years and assisted on the police pension board. He also participated on the police commission.

Fred also worked as an electrical engineer for AT&T for 30 years, traveling to downtown Chicago by train daily.

Fred was a proud Veteran of the US Navy, bravely defending our country during the Vietnam War and serving 3 tours in the the South Pacific and the South China Sea.

A visitation for Fred will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 South Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL 60402. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/give.html) or VA Fisher House Foundation (https://connect.fisherhouse.org/).
