Vera Estelle Flint died on October 25, 2024, at the age of 95, at Aviva Baldwin Park in Staunton. Vera grew up in Massachusetts, spent 29 years in California, and moved to Staunton in 2004. Vera started off as a bookkeeper and concluded her career as an office manager with Bankers Leasing Company. She did this while raising two daughters as a single mother. Vera leaves behind her daughters Ruth Chodrow and Janice Cole, brother and sister-in-law Michael and Mary Davidson, and grandson Philip Chodrow and his wife, Rose Morris-Wright. She also leaves her stepsons, Roger and Gary Flint. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Flint; her sisters Ina Schwartz and Jean Zeller; and her devoted companion, Howard Bernstein. Vera was an active member of Temple House of Israel. Having never had a Bat Mitzvah growing up, she celebrated her Bat Mitzvah there at the age of 83. She was a dedicated member of the Staunton YMCA, working out in the weight room and taking Aquafit classes until she was 93 years old. Vera was a bonus “Mom” and “Grandma” to many, including her special friends Sarah Grove-Humphries and Julia Katz. An enthusiastic concertgoer, Vera could often be found at one of Staunton’s many musical offerings. Vera enjoyed gifting people with her hand-crocheted towels and home-cooked food. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Temple House of Israel, 15 N. Market St., Staunton conducted by Rabbi Randi C. Nagel. Burial will follow in the Temple House of Israel Cemetery. Donations in Vera’s memory may be made to Temple House of Israel, the Staunton-Augusta YMCA, or Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Staunton.
