Joseph Wayne Waters

He was born in Elkins, West Virginia, on February 10, 1945, to Mary Virginia (Miller) Waters and the late Willis J. Waters.

As the son of an Air Force officer, he attended schools in several states and various villages in the United Kingdom. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. and graduated from Frostburg State University in Maryland, with a B.S. and M.A. in science and physical education. He taught science, physical education, driver’s education, and coached football and track in southern Maryland, at Staunton Military Academy, and in Augusta County. He retired from teaching physical education at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Lauren Hart Waters, two sons, Andrew Joseph Waters (Kristin) and Beau Davis Waters (Kelley), his sister, Zenobia Eaton (James), and 5 nieces.

Family visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, February 23, at the Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home, Staun ton, Virginia. Burial will be private at Thornrose Cemetery.
