Ruth Waugh

Ruth Waugh, 81, of Statesville, N.C., died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at her residence. She was a native of Iredell County, born on May 30, 1942, a daughter of the late Wilburn Foy and Kathleen Wilhelm Waugh.

Ruth was truly one of a kind. She was a lover of all things pink, Elvis, and her “granddaughter”, "Katie Bug". “Horsefeathers!” was her favorite phrase, you could even say it was her trademark.

In her early years, Ruth obtained her cosmetology license, an accomplishment she was incredibly proud of. Later in life she worked at Dollar Tree in Statesville.

Ruth was also a talented artist, who you could find every Wednesday morning at the Senior Center painting with her friends. She also loved making cards and arranging flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Phillip Waugh, of Statesville.

Ruth is survived by her niece, Kimberly Waugh, of Statesville, and her children, Jeffery, Kyle, and Crissy. In addition to Ruth’s family, she leaves behind many special friends, who feel like family, at the Iredell Council on Aging/Iredell Senior Center. These include, her lifelong friend, Betty Ellenburg, and other friends, V. Salazar, Pam Pettrey, Dixie St. Clair, and Sheena Wooten. While Ruth may not have had a lot of family, she had a whole community who loved her and who looked out for her.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Ruth will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., at Iredell Memorial Gardens. At Ruth’s request, a reception will be held at the Iredell Council on Aging, located at 344 E. Front St., Statesville, immediately following the service. To honor Ruth’s love of pink, we ask everyone to please wear pink to her service.
