She was born December 28, 1937, in Statesville and was the daughter of the late Hubert and Beulah Nantz. She was a faithful homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be remembered as a happy, wise and funny lady. She was a member of Troutman Baptist Church and enjoyed friends and games on her computer.
She was preceded in death in 2009 by her husband, Joseph Dudley Sloan, Sr., whom she married on April 1, 1956.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Sloan Sloop and her husband, James Sloop, Jr., of Mooresville; her son, Joseph Sloan II and Pilar Capella, of Bloomsburg, PA; ten grandchildren, Joseph Sloan III, Tara Tevepaugh, Jackie Karriker, Lindsay Johnson, Amber Tevepaugh, Ephraim Sloan, Thomas Sloan, Jacob Sloan, Ashley Stenquist and David Sloan; fourteen great-grandchildren, Brylie Jane, Christian, and Trinity Tevepaugh, Ben, Jackson, and Sloan Karriker, Ava and Eddie Johnson, Kirsten and Jake Tevepaugh, Cora, Emaline, and Tanner and Ephriam Sloan, Jr.; five sisters, Sue Ellen Phillips, Annie Waters, Alice Benfield, Elizabeth Hollar, and Helen Wyatt.
Funeral service celebrating Martha’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 1, 2013, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. J.B. Parker, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
