Larry Eugene Cockerham, 67, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at his residence. A native of Wilkes County, he was the son of the late James Estes Cockerham and Evangeline Boyd Miller Cockerham. He was a graduate of South Iredell High School and was of the Baptist faith. He was employed by CommScope in Catawba County. He was a wonderful, loving, giving and soft-spoken gentleman who enjoyed fishing and was an avid collector of firearms and cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Derick Eugene Cockerham and by his first wife, Alfreda Rose Cockerham.
Mr. Cockerham is survived by his wife, Catherine Whitner Cockerham; by his son, Erick Eugene Cockerham of Statesville and by another son, Shannon Craig Cockeran, also of Statesville. Four grandchildren survive him, Chloe Blaine Cockerham, Carter Seth Cockerham, Ava Rose Cockeran and Owen Gray Cockeran. Two brothers, Benny Estes Cockerham of Statesville and Billy Clayton Cockerham of Troutman, and two sisters, Beatrice Moreland (Rob) of Mocksville and Clara Robinson (Doug) of Statesville, also survive.
The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM. A service celebrating the life of Mr. Cockerham will be held in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Pastor Robert Barnette officiating. Interment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
