He was born April 27, 1927, in Iredell County and was the son of the late John H. Stevenson, Sr. and Sallie Martin Stevenson.
He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church where he had served as both deacon and elder and was instrumental in beginning Boy Scout Troop 607 to the church. He was a lifelong member of Monticello Ruritan and the East Iredell Lion’s Club. Mr. Stevenson became a teacher later in life and taught carpentry and shop at Statesville Senior High School.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Sharpe Stevenson; his children, Marilyn Weatherford and Julian Stevenson both of Statesville, Ann Bentley of Bethlehem and Cynthia Mills of Richfield; siblings, Joe Stevenson, Tom Stevenson, Marie Stevenson and Bonnie Johnson all of Statesville and Marge Addington of Denver; grandchildren, Chris Weatherford, Mickey Weatherford and John Bentley.
Services celebrating his life are scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. at Concord Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Kyle Goodman and the Rev. John T. Stevenson officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
