J. Harold Mitchell

Born in Sanville, Virginia on February 3, 1922, Harold was a son of the late John Hughes Mitchell and Mary Sue Overton Mitchell. In 1939, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and the Korean War as a Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic, and retired after 20 years.

He then worked 36 years as a State Farm Insurance Agent in the Maitland, Florida area. J. Harold has been a member at First Baptist Church, Winter Park, since 1960. He has served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and served on the State Board of Missions for the Southern Baptist Association.

Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie Myers Mitchell and one son, Joseph Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews. Harold is preceded in death by son, Gary Edward Hoots and brothers George, John and Bill Mitchell, and sisters Nancy Mitchell DeLancy and Florence Mitchell Stovall. A visitation for J. Harold will be Thursday, April 2nd from 10 to 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Winter Park with funeral services immediately following at 11 AM.

His final place of rest will be at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Grove, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harold's name may be made to the Renovation Fund of First Baptist Church, Winter Park, 1021 N. New York Ave., Winter Park, FL 32789.

Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Zion Baptist Church in Union Grove, N.C. The body will lie in state in the sanctuary 30 minutes before the graveside service which begins at 11 a.m. The family will gather in the fellowship hall after the service.
