She wasborn March 24, 1937, in Alexander County, NC, and is the daughter of the late Glenn Dagenhart and Mary Lou Elliott Dagenhart. She was the fifth of seven children.
She graduated from Stony Point High School in 1955, and was the valedictorian of her high school class. After graduating from high school, Carolyn moved to Charlotte. While living in Charlotte, she worked as a teller at Mutual Savings & Loan.
In 1957, Carolyn moved back to Iredell County and on December 21, 1957, married Troy Allen Robertson. After getting married, Carolyn worked for a farm equipment dealer, doing secretarial work and billing, and then worked as a secretary for the Western North Carolina Conference for the Methodist Church, which at that time had moved its headquarters from Charlotte to Statesville.
In August 1960, Carolyn and Troy had a daughter, Teresa Annette Robertson. Carolyn was planning to go back to work after Teresa was born, but before she could, Troy learned he was being promoted and they could afford for Carolyn to stay home and care for their children. In February 1963, they had a son, Allen Keith Robertson.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, a kind and gentle person who spent her life caring for her family and friends. She was a good cook, who particularly enjoyed making desserts. When her children were young, she took a cake decoration class, so she could bake and decorate birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren. Particularly special were the first birthday cakes for each of her grandsons.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Statesville, followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Prior to the funeral service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at Broad Street United Methodist Church beginning at 10 a.m.
She is survived by her husband, Troy, with whom she had just celebrated her 55th wedding anniversary, who also now resides at Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte. She is also survived by her daughter, Teresa, her son Allen and his wife, Jennie, and three grandsons, Will, George and Jack, all of whom live in Charlotte.
