Mr. John Clyde Meyers, Sr., age 95, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Meyers, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, moved to Statesboro in 1946. Mr. Meyers spent most of his working life in the food service industry. He was co-owner of The Soda Shop in downtown Statesboro and The College Grill, near Georgia Southern University. He was the food manager and member of the American Legion for over 25 years .Mr. Meyers worked as a deputy sheriff for the Bulloch County Magistrate Court. He was a member of the 213 Masonic Lodge and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Meyers was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Meyers; sisters, Gladys Hollis, Mildred (Kitty) Granger, Hazel Cotton and Mary McGregor; a grandson, John (Jack) Charles Meyers and son-in-law, Ronald Bonaventure.
Surviving are his wife of 73 years Mrs. Lucy B. Meyers, of Statesboro; a daughter, Shirley Meyers D’Amico, (Skip), of Baton Rouge, LA; a son, John C. Meyers, Jr.(Deborah) , of Pasadena, MD; a granddaughter, Meaghan Meyers, of Pasadena, MD; grandsons, Howard Bonaventure, (Lisa), Watson, LA, Karl Meyers (Denise) and Erik Meyers, all of Newburn, NC; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Irma Lee Harper, of Charleston, SC; several nieces and nephews and a very good friend, Bill Fry.
Serving as pallbearers will be Karl Meyers, Erik Meyers, J. Howard Bonaventure, Bill Fry, Mark Saunders and Mike Kennedy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Dan Lewis officiating.
Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
