Val Philip William Dacanay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Val Dacanay, a devoted husband, loving father, and a cherished friend, who left this world on October 28, 2023. Val, aged 77, was a resident of Staten Island, New York. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia, their daughter, Audrey, son-in-law, James Knott, and his grand-dogs, Gouda and Manchego.

Val was born on February 23, 1946, in Manila, Philippines. He was a man of great intelligence and extreme generosity. In 1968, he graduated from the Mapua Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering, marking the beginning of an exceptional journey in his professional life. In pursuit of his dreams and a brighter future, he left his homeland and moved to San Francisco in 1972. Two years later, in 1974, he made his way to New York City, where he would build a life filled with love, family, and accomplishments.

Val's story was intertwined with that of his loving wife, Cynthia, for nearly five decades. They celebrated 49 years of marriage together, a testament to their unwavering love and dedication. Val's devotion to Cynthia was a source of inspiration for all who knew them.

Throughout his professional career, Val made a significant impact in the world of engineering. For over 20 years, he dedicated his talents to Lockwood Greene, where he spearheaded major projects for esteemed clients such as Anheuser-Busch, Kodak, and Newark Airport. His work exemplified his dedication, innovation, and expertise, leaving a legacy in the industry.

Beyond his professional achievements, Val was known as a welcoming host to all family and friends visiting New York. He opened his heart and home to guests, making them feel like family. His warm hospitality and open arms made everyone feel at ease.

Val was a devoted Beatles fan, and his love for their music was a reflection of his joyful spirit. He had a passion for tinkering and building things, using his creative talents to craft memorable moments, especially for all the kids in the family. Val always had candy and toys on hand for them. He took great delight in bringing smiles to their faces, and his playful spirit endeared him to the younger generation.

Val is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Racelis and Cyd Fulgencio, his brother-in-law, Tony Fulgencio, as well as his brother, Xylph Dacanay. He shared a deep bond with his siblings, and their support for each other was a testament to the strength of family.

Val Dacanay's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, dedication, and generosity will forever be an inspiration to us all.
