Tommy was first and foremost a prayerful Christian, a gentle, kind, loving and humble
soul who touched many family members and friends. He was a long time parishioner of
Holy Family Catholic Church.
With respect to his work life, Tommy, a lifelong Staten Islander, spent most of his adult
working life on the water. In 1964 he joined the United States Navy and served 4 years.
including a number of tours off the coast of Vietnam. In the early 1970's he worked
for Moran Tugs, mostly in New York harbor but also on extended trips up the Hudson
River. In 1973 he began work as a deckhand on the Staten Island Ferry from which he
retired as a Mate in 2002. At the time of his death, he was the Treasurer of the Marine
and Aviation Anchor Club. A club whose main focus is managing and sponsoring the
annual ferry boat ride in New York Harbor for God's Special Children.
With respect to his personal life, he loved to travel, to golf, to take photographs
(especially of his grandchildren).
He was predeceased by his parents Thomas M. Reilly and his mother, Helen Reilly, his
sister Mary Ellen Adinolfi and a brother Patrick Reilly. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Waltraud (Val) Reilly, his daughter Helen Montalto (Matthew), his son Thomas Reilly (Julie), his grandchildren Elise Farriola, Russell Farriolla, Matthew Montalto, Thomas Reilly, Kevin Reilly, Ava Reilly, Jack Reilly, his stepchildren Rita and James Dougherty, his brothers Joseph Reilly (Darlene), John Reilly (Dolores), and his sisters Patricia Driscoll and Barbara DeLorenzo (Don), as well as many, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
