So sorry to hear of Tom's sudden passing. We go way back in Brooklyn. My sympathies go out to family members especially Laura, Bobby & Bruce plus his sister Mary Ann.

I had a strange experience on the train the other day and it involves Tom. Occasionally in our conversations we would reference a great moment from the film Citizen Kane when Kane's assistant talks about seeing a beautiful woman on a ferry boat when he was a young man. The memory of that beautiful woman was so powerful that this fellow claimed that not a week went by without a fleeting thought of that woman entering his mind.
The other day I saw a very beautiful young woman on the subway. I had to force myself not to stare at her. Exactly my type....( if I was still 30 years old.)
I thought to myself that I would have to tell Tom about seeing her because It might be like that moment in Citizen Kane for me.
Almost immediately I then remembered that he's gone.
Really miss him...

I was so saddened by the news of Tom's passing.  I still think I'm going to get a call from him asking a question or sharing some news like I did most days and then I remember again that he is gone. I worked with Tom for 5 years and not once did he ever not have a smile on his face or a good thought to share about anything, even when he was frustrated over something.

To Rhoda and the rest of the Murphy family, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.  Please know he was highly regarded,  loved by many, and will be missed terribly.

My memories with you will always be remembered. You were an uncle to me who is full of words of encouragement and very kind. 

Now, I know that you are with God, who will always protect and hold me in the palm of His hands.

Dearest SM, 
my loving and kind uncle, 

You were an amazing person - someone I will always look up to. Your visits in the country were brief but were filled with strong and good memories. Distance and language were never a problem. We would talk for hours sharing our curiosities and our stories over a cup of coffee. We would try opening a book but would end up in another conversation. When I was in primary school, you gave me the book, "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran as a gift. Young as I am back then, I strived to be a better reader because as expected, the book was too profound for me back then. While doing so, I realized I started to become a better person. You helped me bring out a better version of myself. This was only one of the many great times you shared your wisdom through your actions. 

Thank you, SM. My life is better and more beautiful because you are part of it. I will always stay strong and happy as you would always tell me. I love you, Tito Tom. I know you will be watching over me and all of us.

To our dearest Sister Rhoda and Tom's family,

Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers as we could not be with you physically to give our warm comfort and care. 

Tom was such a great person,  a good husband to our sister, and a loving father to his children and JD. Very seldom we see each other but he always remembered us in all occasions by sending messages with thoughtfulness and love even in regular days. The love and care he gave to us was priceless and will forever be cherished. His kindness and gentleness assured us how much he loves our sister. We love you Tom. We thank God for having you as part of our family.

Tom was a guiding light while I worked with him at Deutsche Bank. He took me under his wing to teach the ins and outs of tech writing, and did it with his witty sense of humor - who knew tech writing could be entertaining!   Tom always spoke highly of Rhoda and his kids; just bringing them up would bring out his million dollar smile.   He was a kind and loyal soul that will be missed. 

Tom was a wonderful human and colleague. I will miss seeing his smiling face in the morning as I entered our workplace (he was always the first one there), and chatting with him about his family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and I am so sorry for your loss.

A "True Gentlemen"  we are all better for knowing Tom and all sadden with his passing.

The MUFG team who work with Tom are deeply saddened for your loss and remember Tom with the greatest fondness. I personally recall meeting Tom the first time in Harborside - in addition to his charming smile, I remember how proud he was to share photos of his beautiful granddaughter. What a lovely man. Tom’s passing will be felt by many.  I’ve know Tom for 5 decades and always thought he was one of the good guys and always with a smile and a good word. He will be missed. RIP Tom.  My condolences to Rhoda and family.

This is such a shock and sad occasion.  Tom had just texted me on Sunday in one of his upbeat caring holiday salutations.  He was always like that - from the moment I met him in January 2006 when he greeted me at Guardian Life in New York on my first day of work  until I moved to Philadelphia in October 2010 when he presented me with a gold watch from him and Rhoda to celebrate what he endearingly called "my retirement."  He had a great tongue in cheek sense of humor and when our desks were next to each other, we shared many laughs.  He was always supportive and a fine gentleman.  Tom, you were a very great friend whom I will dearly miss. 

To Rhoda & family, Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved, Tom. I knew Tom at Equitable for many years. He was a bright and upstanding man, may he Rest In Peace. Jack Taylor.  

I worked with Tom a lot over the last year and always appreciated how he went above and beyond to help anyone who reached out for assistance. I sent a "Moments that Matter" appreciation card a few weeks ago and got the chance to have a quick conversation with Tom at that time, just to say thanks for everything he does. I'll miss him.

I remember Tom as a consummate professional, a great team player.  Tom was also a true friend and confidante to me, he had a good sense of humor, a solid person with high morals.  When life would challenge him, he would always rise above the bad and see the bigger picture, keep his focus on things getting better, especially with his children in the early years I knew him.  Family meant a lot to Tom, he found a wonderful partner/wife in you - Rhoda and together you travelled the next phase of his life happy together.  I will always miss my dear friend Tom, he was always a good shoulder to cry on, he never turned me away, he listened patiently and would lay out  a path for me to see positive in my challenges.  Be at peace in heaven.....Sadhana

Tom was a great friend and mentor. 
We enjoyed so many fun and funny brunches on Sunday mornings after he dropped Rhoda off for work.
One of the best things you can say about someone is that they made you feel good about things when you were with them.  And when I hung around with Tom, I always felt like the best version of myself.
I almost feel as though I have lost an older brother....



Anyone who knew Tom well, or even casually, shares the grief we are all enduring as a result of his unforeseen passing. In fact, it is a total shock to his closest friends.
My relationship with Tom spans the last five decades since the early 70s. A group of us was forming a Technical Group comprised of hand-picked reputable technicians to provide technical support for all of the major operating environments. In addition to those groups was a sundry of environments that we classified under the Multi-Environment Support Section (a.k.a. the Mess Section). Because of the diversified technical background of one individual in particular, he was assigned to head up the MESS Section. This high-powered tech was none other than Tom Murphy. (One of our close friends aptly coined the phrase Golden Eggs in recognition of the notable reputation each of them had earned from their proven track record.) Tom’s diversified technical savvy, organizational skills and superior ability to communicate both in writing and orally were ideal prerequisites to perform admirably in this role. Tom truly excelled! As a matter of fact, those personal skills were ideally suited for numerous consulting assignments he has enjoyed for the last three decades.
I have kept in reasonably close communication with Tom for many years, as recently as last Thursday, which has enabled our friendship to advance to a personal level, far above any commonality we had in the computer industry.
We will all miss Tom terribly, as we reflect on our individualized friendships that we had with him. I shall pray for the repose of his soul, and may Rhoda and her family be comforted by the warmth that so many of Tom’s friends enjoyed with him. May Tom rest in peace!
