Born Susan Scotto in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to Staten Island in Westerleigh as a young girl and attended Port Richmond High School; later Susan worked as a secretary for the Tilo Roofing Company in Port Richmond for many years. Susan met her future husband, Salvatore Locastro on a blind date. They were married in 1952 and started a family a year later. Salvatore, who was a barber, owned & operated Sal’s Barber Shop on Clove Road passed away in 1997.
Susan enjoyed reading, cooking, entertaining and caring for her immediate and extended family. It should be noted Susan had a great deal of compassion for all of God’s creatures with a special affection for her canine friends. Susan was a former parishioner of St. Sylvester’s Parish in Grasmere.
During the summer months, Susan would return home to Staten Island to visit her siblings. “Aunt Sue” was adored by family especially her many nieces and nephews. Her lifelong best friend and sister, Rose Viola will miss her terribly and brother Tony will miss his weekly phone conversations with his beloved sister.
Surviving is her daughter, Barbara T. Locastro-Garofalo and son-in-law Roland Garofalo of Boca Raton, FL. Also surviving is her sister Rose Viola of Staten Island and a brother Anthony Gesso of Maybrook, NY.
Aside from her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Michael Scotto, James Scotto, Dominic Gesso and sisters Mary Dogery and Anne LaMendella.
