She was born Rose DiGiacomo in Manhattan in 1919, during the Spanish Flu pandemic. She was one of eight children of Sicilian immigrant parents - a heritage she was extremely proud of. She grew up on Elizabeth Street in Little Italy, and moved to Brooklyn when she got married in 1943. In 1953, she and her husband Sam moved to Great Kills, where she lived for 64 years. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Clare Church, and sang in their choir for many years. She enjoyed cooking, travel, crossword puzzles, and rooting for the Yankees. Rose was treasured for her lifelong devotion to her family and to her faith, and she will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Rosario (Sam) in 2008, and by her daughter Josephine in 2010. She is survived by her sons Frank, Charles, Thomas, and Robert. She is also survived by eight grandchildren - Christina, Lauren, Joanna, Robert, Veronica, Anthony, Matthew, and Gianna Rose - and by four great-grandchildren - Adriana, Sienna, Josephine, and Camila Rose.
Services will be held on Sunday, May 23 from 2PM to 4:30PM at Casey McCallum Rice, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island. Funeral mass will be at St. Clare Church, 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, on Monday, May 24 at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains, S.I.
