Juan “Johnny” Melendez, 69 of Staten Island, NY unexpectedly passed on November 22, 2020. Johnny was known for his mind, heart and hands of gold. Those who know him would agree that he was the type of man who could build a house with his bare hands and no blueprint. There was no issue he faced that went unresolved, no problem that he could not fix. Johnny, a retired correction officer, always kept himself busy and enjoyed both tinkering with electronics and the upkeep of his cars. In what feels like it will be a never-ending moment of darkness caused by his absence, memories alone are enough to temporarily relieve our suffering caused by his loss. He has touched every person he has ever met with his generosity and will forever be considered, by his loved ones, one of the most selfless men that anyone could ever have hoped to meet. Johnny did not rely on words to express his love, because his love always shined far brighter through his actions. He is survived by his wife, Christine; his children, Jessica, Ted, Liza and John; his step-son, Joseph; as well as his siblings and grand-children.
A visitation for Juan will be held Friday, November 27, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, November 28, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Clare Church, 110 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10308. A committal service will occur Saturday, November 28, 2020 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Resurrection Cemetery, 391 Sharott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
