Josephine (nee Vertucci) Dunn, 91, of Staten Island, NY and Jupiter, FL, went home to the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2022 after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Rose and Nicholas Vertucci and was the sister of Carmel Maldari and Gerard Vertucci. (all deceased).
Josephine and her husband, Dr. William J. Dunn, Sr. who pre-deceased her, were snowbirds for 30 plus years until Josephine moved permanently to Jupiter 10 years ago. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in NYC with a Bachelor of Science Degree and briefly worked in the lab until she started her family. She resided with her family in West Brighton since 1955 and moved to Todt Hill in 1970 where she lived for most of her life.
As a member of the Richmond County Country Club Josephine was an avid and successful tennis player. She played golf in her later years and enjoyed playing bridge and Mah Jong. She was a member of St. Jude’s Church in Jupiter, FL and St. Theresa’s Church in Staten Island, NY. She also attended Family Church in Palm Beach Gardens with her daughter and family. She loved crocheting and crochet until a month before her passing. She volunteered her sewing and crocheting talents throughout the years to schools, churches, Kenya Relief and St. Mary’s Medical Center. In Jupiter, Josephine was a season ticket holder at the Maltz Jupiter Theater, and at one time a member of a group of friends who volunteered at the theater. She was a member of her community knitting club and a Bible study group. She enjoyed watercolor painting, as is evident by her many portrayals of the Jupiter Lighthouse. She will be greatly missed by many. Her legacy was the many talents she shared with her grandchildren in art and cooking. Her greatest and proudest achievement and joy in life came from her family.
