Joseph J. Terranova, 82, of Todt Hill, a distinguished business owner, died in Staten Island University Hospital on Saturday September 28, 2024 from Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). Mr. Terranova was the former owner and Vice President of Richard Terranova Construction Company. He is the current owner and President of Perry’s Brick Company, a staple business on Staten Island for over 57 years.
Mr. Terranova was born and raised in South Beach. He married his late wife of 40 years, Vera Rooney, in 1968. In 1975 they relocated to Dongan Hills and lived there until he built their dream home in Todt Hill in 1991.Mr. Terranova attended New Dorp High School.
He was a gifted bricklayer by trade who enjoyed multiple hobbies with his friends and family. His hobbies include boating, hunting, snowmobiling, riding motorcycles and traveling. He was an avid classic car enthusiast who restored multiple cars and attended car shows and auctions throughout the country. His joy was relaxing at his 2nd home in Tom’s River and a cabin in the Catskills.
Mr. Terranova was a dedicated husband and father, a devoted brother and a loyal friend. He was a man of integrity and principle.
His daughter Elena states, “There is so much to say about a man who taught us so much about being successful both in business and his personal life. He instilled in us that to play hard you must work hard. He lived life to the fullest. He was the happiest around his family. He loved having us all around him.”
Mr. Terranova is survived by his daughters Alicia Daddio and Elena McNeill; sons Joseph Terranova and Anthony Terranova; nine grandchildren and his sisters Dorothy Bonanno, Rosemarie Malaspina, and Arlene Scerbo. In addition to his wife, Vera, he is predeceased by his brother Richard.
A visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home in Castleton Corners on October 1,2024 from 4-9 pm. The funeral will be held October 2, 2024 with a mass at 10 am in St. Ann’s Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.

A funeral service will occur Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 101 Cromwell Ave, New York, NY 10304.
A committal service will occur Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Rd, New York, NY 10306.
