Joseph Romano

Born and raised in Brooklyn NY by parents Daniel and Ida, and with brother Richard, he enjoyed his active youth, before enlisting in the United States Navy upon graduating high school. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked various jobs for the City of New York, retiring from the Department of Environmental Protection in 1992. Joseph was a die-hard Brooklyn Dodger, Mets and Rangers fan, watching and attending games whenever possible. His loyalty to sports teams, though, was nothing compared to the loyalty he had for his family. Joseph worked multiple side jobs in life to provide for his wife and children, saved into his Christmas Club bank account to buy gifts and made sure there was always a fun summer vacation, even though it meant more bills to pay.

While his loyalty is admired, it is his devotion that is revered. Joseph started dating Ann in 1958. It wasn’t until 2023 that they missed ringing in the New Year together. The love of his life, to his very last breath, it was all about Ann. Nothing else mattered. No one else mattered. Her care and well-being were what drove him. Together, they danced, they laughed, they cried, and they survived. It was about each other, and it was about family – children, grandchildren, in-laws, and close friends. Like a true leader, Joseph delivered. Regardless of financial means, health, or the time to do things, if it needed to be done, he figured out how to get it done. Success is not defined by the size of a bank account, or the assets accumulated, it is defined by the number of lives you touch and positively impact in your lifetime. In life, Joseph achieved great success.

Joseph is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 62 years, Ann, children Joseph, Donna, Daniel and Vincent, grandchildren Jennifer, Amanda, Kristen, Steven, Joseph, Lauren, Christina, Kelly and Nicole, great-granddaughter Kayla, son-in-law and daughters-in-law. Joseph now reunites with his previously departed parents, family, friends and a bunch of dogs “schmeesksing” his face, as he always enjoyed, and cheers for the Rangers and Mets from above. He will always be with us.

A visitation for Joseph will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Clare Church, 110 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10308, followed by a committal service at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
