Joseph Edward Gilroy Jr. , 65, passed away suddenly in the early hours on November 11th 2021. He was born and raised in Dongan Hills. He is survived by his sister Judy Gilroy Valitutto, her husband John, his nephew Michael J. Byrne, wife Dana, their children, Sophia and Brandon, his niece, Jennalyn G. Valitutto, as well as his Longtime Love, Julie DeStefano.
Joe held multiple banking positions in his career which spanned 50 years. He was a 2013 recipient of Staten Island Sports Hall of Fame “Unsung Heroes” award. He was very involved with many local not-for-profit associations which include the March of Dimes, Staten Island Heart Society, and Steven Siller Tunnel to Towers. We could continue to list his achievements and his involvements, however, that would take up the whole paper.
He was very passionate about his boats, cars, and his tools. He thoroughly looked forward to his family vacation in Maine every summer, as well as his trips to New Port Richey, Florida.
He was an exceptional man who was always there for anyone who needed him. He will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tunnel to Towers as well as the Staten Island Heart Society will be accepted.
Viewings will be held at Casey’s Funeral home on Monday and Tuesday 3-7. The funeral will take place at St. Anns Church Wednesday at 11.
