John Joseph Stapleton Jr.

November 13, 1942 – May 10, 2023

On May 10, 2023 Jackie succumbed to injuries sustained from a car accident.

For those 6 weeks family and friends were always with him.

He was the son of John and Helen Stapleton. One of nine children. Jackie spent his childhood in Mariners Harbor.

After graduating from Port Richmond High School he became a bus driver with the N.Y.C.T.A. His entire career was spent in the Castleton Avenue Depot.

When he married Rosemarie (Montanaro) the eventually settled in Westerleigh.

It was there that they raised their three children: Frank (Joy), John III (Toni Anne), and Jodie.

After retiring in 1992 he devoted his time to his children and grandchildren. For the next fifteen he babysat for Briana (troy) and Connor while their parents worked as they grew older all of their friends knew “Grandpa!”

Jackie especially loved travelling around the country to watch college baseball games. At every event or graduation ceremony he was always the proudest person in attendance.

During this time he travelled extensively. Some of favorite destinations were to Dublin, London, and Rome. During his “spare time” he tinkered around the house or worked out in the yard. Many a times a new friend was made as they walked by.

Eighteen months ago the new love of his life arrived. His great-grandson Declan Stackpole was born.

The Stapleton family would like to thank the entire staff of the SICU unit at RUMC hospital. This remarkable group of people did everything in their power to “create a win.” We will always remember them.

Lastly, a special thank you to Father Pat who was a comfort to all of us.

John Joseph Stapleton Jr., age 80, of Staten Island, New York passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

A visiting for John will be held Monday, May 15, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310.

On Tuesday May 16, 2023 services will be held at the funeral home at 11am. Immediately, to follow the family has invited attendees to join them for their repast which will be held at Osteria Santina at 502 Jewett Avenue.
