She was born and raised in Brooklyn and moved to Graniteville in 1989. She lived there until 2006, when she entered the nursing home.
Ms. Avenoso worked for 29 years as a bookkeeper at Dan's Supreme, a supermarket in Brooklyn. She later worked at CVS in the Staten Island Mall. She retired in 1995.
She enjoyed shopping at the Staten Island Mall, cooking and taking care of her family.
"She always treated me as if I were her own daughter,'' said her daughter-in-law, Jeannie Avenoso. "We will all miss her deeply.''
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Dominick, in 1972, and by her son, Ronald, in 2007.
She is survived by her son, Donald; her daughter, Sarah Daly; her sisters, Margaret Enigan and Lillian Savino; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Pity R.C. Church, Bulls Head. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Queens.
