Evelyn was born on July 16th, 1936 in Newark, New Jersey. Evelyn lived in Newark for the entirety of her childhood. Upon meeting her husband, Vincenzo Palomba, Evelyn would soon move to Brooklyn, New York and eventually move to Staten Island, New York, where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Evelyn worked for the Payroll/Human Resources department for Citibank for 35 years. In retirement, she worked as a cashier at Foodtown Supermarket and as a carousel operator for the carousel at Woodbridge Mall in New Jersey.
Evelyn was a true Renaissance woman. She enjoyed making beautiful paintings and drawings of landscapes, family members, and still lifes. She also had a passion for writing. Between the years of 2008 and 2012, Evelyn attended writing classes and chorus at the John Noble Maritime Collection in Staten Island, New York. Along with her classmates, Evelyn’s writings were published in two books; The Noblest: An Anthology of Prose and Poetry and The Noblest Volume II: An Anthology of Prose and Poetry. Evelyn was a member of Helluva Choir which also included many of Evelyn’s writing mates. They met weekly and performed at local gatherings, senior citizen centers, and even performed in Albany for Senior Citizens’ Day in May of 2010. When Evelyn was not attending classes, she enjoyed spending her time reading books, watching movies, and enjoying family.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Toniann Palomba, her son-in-law Gary Abrams, her grandchildren Paloma Bush, Vincent Sofia, and Sara Abrams, her grandson-in-law Matthew Bush and her great grandson James Bush. She was predeceased by her parents Martin & Evelyn Soden, her brothers James Soden, WIlliam Soden, and George Soden, and her husband Vincenzo Palomba.
Evelyn found joy in simple things; worn library books, black & white films, and accompanying family members in drives around the neighborhood. She will be dearly missed and always remembered.
