A native Staten Islander from Grant City, Ed attended St John’s Lutheran school and was part of Babe Ruth Little League. Ed developed a love of baseball from his father who was a coach At a young age, he was called the Little Minister because he loved Bible study and was always helping others. He attended New Dorp high school where he was at the top of his class. He graduated from Colgate University and was a building administrator at United Cerebral Palsy. He later worked as a computer analyst at SIAC responsible for CMS (Common Message Switch), an online data application. He was there during 911 when the trading systems were at risk. But Ed was always cool in a crisis and thrived in chaos.
He loved the family tradition of going to Cape May NJ in the summer. At age 16 he worked at the Lobster House and as an adult he would eat at The Lobster House every time he visited.
For those who knew him, he dealt with a lot of serious medical conditions and was a walking miracle. He received a kidney transplant in 2020 at the height of Covid.
Yet, he ministered to everyone and always spoke to those who needed a kidney. He had the gift of gab, the gift of humor and was a pretty good mimic. He could read the room and light up a room. He was passionate about baseball, golf, gardening and the stock market. .He was a good brother and uncle. He loved his nephews and was a teacher, a coach and advisor to them. But mostly he had a close relationship with God and shared his faith where there was an opportunity. He always looked after his wife calling to see if she got in a cab or arrived at her destination. . He had a strong BS detector and knew what was real. He cared about faith, family, and friends. He would often say, "Sit back and watch God work." Our family is shocked and devasted but comforted to know he is at peace.
He's survived by his wife, Diane, his sister, JoAnn Bollettieri, his brother George and his nephews Michael and Gregory Bollettieri.
A visitation for Ed will be July 18th 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00.
The burial will take place July 19th 11:15.
