Edward Frances Rogers (Ed) was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. All his life, Ed worked hard to serve those around him, whether as a Navy SeaBee, cleaning up the aftermath of Pearl Harbor during World War II, to serving as an usher in the parishes he belonged to, St. Clare’s in Great Kills, and Holy Child in Eltingville, to being the resident handyman in the homes of his friends and family.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ed moved his family to Staten Island in 1956, where he remained until his passing. As a young man, Ed marched with the New York Skyliners Drum Corps. He was employed by the New York Telephone Company for over 40 years. Ed was an active member in his community; he was a life member of the Stolzenthaler Council Knights of Columbus, member of the Watkins Kellet American Legion, Anderson-Lagno Veterans of Foreign Wars, New York Skyliners Alumni Chorus, Staten Island Telco Retirees, Telephone Pioneers, and the Floral Park Chapter of the ROMEO’S (Retired Old Men Eating Out).
Ed was known for his love of golf, gardening, woodworking, fixing things, and his incredible memory. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen, and his son-in-law Jerry Morecraft. He is survived by his four children Michael (Jane), Joan (Gene), Kate (Jamie), and John (Grace), nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
