Doris passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2021 surrounded by her family, she was a loving wife, mother and Grammy.
A native Staten Islander, the former Doris Marie Mitchell, was born in Livingston. She was recently predeceased by her husband of 60 years, George V. Bossert. Also predeceased by her parents, Doris and Thomas Mitchell and her brother Thomas. Doris is survived by her cherished daughters Patricia (Robert Mooney) Doreen Murphy (William) and Janice McSwiggan and her adored grandsons, Daniel, Connor and Rogan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janice Bossert and her 4 nephews.
Doris was a graduate of St. Peter's Girls High School. After which she worked as a receptionist with Allied Chemical Corp. Manhattan and opted to become a homemaker when her first child was born.
While her children attended Sacred Heart School, Doris was active in the St. Monica's Mothers Guild and was a coordinator with the Girl Scouts.
Doris returned to the workplace in the early 1970s on a part-time basis at the College of Staten Island. She then took a full-time position as an executive secretary with Pittston Stevedoring Corp., followed by the position of membership secretary with the Downtown Athletic Club. Prior to retiring in 1993, she worked in the admissions and registrar's office at St. John's University, Grymes Hill.
Doris enjoyed playing golf with her husband and also played with the Silver Lake Ladies, The Raindrops, The Vagabonds and was a charter member of the South Shore Women's Golf Club. She also enjoyed playing Mahjong and spending family vacations at the New Jersey Shore.
Doris' love of her family was constant and unwavering and they loved her completely.
Visitation for Doris will be on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Sacred Heart Church from 10:45am to 11:30am, 981 Castleton Ave Staten Island, NY. Interment will take place 12:00pm at St. Peter's Cemetery, 51 Tyler Ave, Staten Island, NY.
