Loving wife and mother, Diane H. Whalen, a lifelong resident of Staten Island, was born October 17, 1955, and passed peacefully on February 21, 2019 at the age of 63 at SI University Hospital North.
Diane grew up in Port Richmond, attended PS 20, Prall Jr. High School 27, and graduated Port Richmond High School Class of ’73. She earned her BA in Education at the former Richmond College, and began her career at St. Mary’s Elementary School on Richmond Terrace, followed by time at Building Blocks Montessori School. She spent the majority of her time teaching at Eltingville Lutheran School, until her recent retirement.
Diane loved traveling the country, visiting a total of 46 states. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, baking, hosting family and friends for BBQs in the yard and spending time with her cat, Zoomer.
She is survived by Brian, her husband of 35 years, and daughters, Brianne and Deanna. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Doris and John “Jack” Driscoll. The viewing will be held Saturday, February 23, from 7 to 9pm and Sunday, February 24, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at Casey Funeral Home with a Mass being held at Holy Family Church on Monday, February 25 at 10am. Burial to follow at Oceanview Cemetery.
