Daniel A. Mahala, 89, a native Staten Islander, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, due to complications resulting from a respiratory ailment. He was a lifelong West Brighton resident who served in the Army from 1953-1955. He had worked in a variety of vocations and ended his work career over 35 years ago. He retired after completing 11 years of teaching in the public school system. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and good conversation. He traveled widely, but in the last two decades, he spent most of his travel time visiting his favorite destinations in France. Many of his best conversations took place in Clove Lake Park where he liked to combine socializing with outdoor exercise. He is survived by his wife of over
65 years, Jill, his 4 sons - Daniel, James, Edward, and Michael, and his daughter Nancy Last. He also leaves 12 grandchildren.
A visitation for Daniel will be held Monday, January 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310.
