Carol Ann Laurie was born in Trinidad, West Indies on August 12, 1943. Her parents met in Barbados during World War II and were married there. Carol's father was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 17, 1901 and her mother was born in Barbados on December 5, 1914.
Carol attended P.S. 14, P.S. 45 from 2nd grade until graduating 8th grade. She graduated from Curtis High School in June 1961. She graduated from Claremont Secretarial School, now merged with Berkeley College. She graduated from the College of Staten Island with an Associate's Degree in Business in 1990.
She was an Executive Secretary with Phoenix Insurance Company in 1962, which later merged with Travelers Insurance Company, and was employed there until 1970, when she decided to stay home to care for her first daughter.
She was the church secretary for Calvary Presbyterian Church from 1975 through 1984. She was also a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary, a Deacon and a Trustee. She was employed as a School Secretary at P.S. 105 in Brooklyn, NY for approximately 25 years. She retired in June 2009.
Carol enjoyed gardening, traveling and trips to Atlantic City, NJ., the Caribbean including Bermuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica and The Panama Canal.
In February 2014, she received a successful kidney transplant from New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital.
Carol married her High School sweetheart, Mark Laurie in 1967. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on February 11, 2017. They resided in New Dorp. Mark passed away on March 15, 2017. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Jean Stacey Karnatski and her son-in-law, Jason Karnatski. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Wieser, her son-in-law, Robert Wieser, her grandsons, Mark and Robby Wieser, granddaughter, Jenna Nicole Karnatski, her nieces, Mary Dacio and Elizabeth Maley and nephews, Brian and William Folker.
Visitation for Carol will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310.
