Retired intermediate school teacher Retired Intermediate School teacher Carol Lant-Weibel, 70, of Shore Acres passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 21, 2022 at Richmond University Medical Center. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, John Weibel, two brothers Richard Lant of Hicksville, L.I., John Lant of Freehold, N.J. one sister Kathleen Scarpa of Lee, Mass. and 7 nieces and nephews. Born in Brooklyn April 26, 1952 and growing up in Flatbush; she graduated from Midwood H.S. 1970, Brooklyn College with a B.A degree in 1974 and an M.S. degree in 1977. Carol relocated to Staten Island in 1984 and taught at Intermediate Schools 49, 75 and 24 where she retired as dean in 2008. A lifelong animal and nature lover, she was particularly fond of cats. If you ever saw a car driving around the Island bearing "catwuman" on the license plates, that was her! Someone else previously got the properly spelled "catwoman", but the meaning still gets through. Carol was an active member of the Staten Island JCC and the AARP, participating in multiple activities and making many friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314. Visitation is on Tuesday, Oct. 25th from 4 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held beginning at 10 AM on Wednesday, Oct 26th followed by burial at Moravian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital would be most appreciated.
