Beloved mother and grandmother
Beatrice Damato, 95, a devoted soap opera fan and beloved mother and grandmother, entered eternal life on June 16, 2020, surrounded by family in her home.
Known as Bea, she was born on January 30, 1925, in Manhattan, to the late Antonio and Josephine Mazzucco. At 8 years old, Bea moved to Staten Island and later went on to attend McKee High School.
During World War II, Bea worked in a factory as a seamstress making pea coats for the United States Armed Forces. With a strong passion for helping others, Bea spent many years dedicating her time and talents as a volunteer at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home.
Bea married her beloved husband, the late Gerardo, on January 16, 1949. They enjoyed many years of traveling, some of their favorite destinations being Bermuda, Italy and New Hope, PA.
An artistic and creative woman, Bea enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, and sewing. She also spent countless afternoons watching her favorite soap operas, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.
Bea cherished every moment with her daughter and granddaughter. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with her daughter and attending her granddaughter's many dance recitals and theatre productions. Bea will be deeply missed by her family and friends alike.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gerardo. Beatrice's spirit lives on through her daughter, Jo-Marie Damato, and her granddaughter, Theresa Reed.
A viewing will take place at Casey Funeral Home, Slosson Avenue, Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with practiced social distancing. Immediately following, a funeral procession from Casey Funeral Home will depart, with a graveside service and internment at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bea's name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
