Arthur E. Vandell Jr.

Arthur Edward Vandell, Jr died at 1:12 PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in New York. He was with his daughter and son-in-law when he ascended into heaven and he was at peace. He was the firstborn on Staten Island on July 3, 1947, to Josephine and Arthur. He grew up as a child in Myers Corners in the house his grandfather built and spent adolescence in the house his father built in Eltingville. He went to McKee High School and was accepted into the apprenticeship program in the Plumbers Local in Staten Island and began his career in the Union. He went to the Lincoln Welding School in Ohio and then worked at Chevron as a welder and then spent the majority of his career in Local No. 1 Plumbers Union as an X-ray welder. When he was in the Union, he worked on amazing landmarks such as The Outerbridge, Verrazano Bridge, the Trump buildings in Manhattan, and the new Yankee Stadium. He was so proud of his career and his Union. He enjoyed life to the fullest. In his 20s, he would go to Daytona Beach in the winter with all of his “guy” friends, loved to ski, and loved the ocean. He loved riding motorcycles and dirt bikes as he grew up. He drove all over the country to see all of the US and loved his homeland. He had a passion for the ocean which he displayed by always having a boat and scuba diving. He loved cars and building things, just like his Dad who was his idol. In his early 30s, he married Michele Woych at Holy Child, their parish, and had a daughter, Erica. He never missed anything in Erica’s life. He loved to watch her grow up and never missed a sports game or milestone. He loved to teach her everything he knew, including living a life loving people unconditionally and like Jesus. He loved to take his family out on the boat and go fishing. Later in life, he divorced and remained close friends with his ex-wife and enjoyed two grandchildren with her. He developed a new passion after retiring in his early 60s for ballroom dancing, Argentinian tango, and playing golf. Family always was number one for Artie. He would drop anything for them, “give you the shirt off his back”. He would love to tell his son-in-law Phil, you are the son I never had. The sun rose and set throughout his entire life with his Mother, Father, daughter, two sisters, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. In the most recent years, he spent a tremendous amount of time with his daughter and her two girls.

He is survived by his Mother, Josephine Vandell, 101 years old. Also survived by his daughter, Erica DeMarco, son-in-law, Phil DeMarco, and two granddaughters, Aliyah and Maddison. His two sisters Carol Boylan and Suzanne Quinn and his two brothers-in-law Danny Boylan and Tim Quinn whom he loved so dearly. His nieces and nephews, Kevin Boylan, Cathleen D’Agata, Timmy Quinn, and Tyler Quinn their spouses, Allison Boylan, Artie D’Agata, and Ashling Quinn. Lastly, his niece and nephew’s children, James, Matthew, and Kiera Boylan, Peter, Victoria, Joanna, Juliet, and Danny D’Agata, and the newest addition sweet baby, Declan Quinn.

He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Edward Vandell Sr. His beloved Grandparents, Maria and Luciano Gomez (Mom’s parents), Kathleen and Thomas Venditto (Dad’s parents), and his Uncle Celestino Gomez.

A visitation for Arthur will be held Monday, January 16, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 17, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Holy Child Church, 4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10312. A committal service will occur Tuesday, January 17, 2023, from 12:15 PM to 12:30 PM at Ocean View Cemetery, 3315 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10306.
