Angelo Luongo, July 23, 1928 - February 4, 2022. Angelo Luongo was born in Greenwich Village and lived on Staten Island for most of his life. He won the 1945 Golden Gloves Championship at 16 years old and moved into the professional ranks shortly thereafter. He joined the USMC at 17 and served in Guam and Midway during WWII. Upon returning from military service he resumed his boxing career for two years ending with a record of 28 and 3. He became a member of the NYPD in 1955 eventually attaining the rank of detective and retired in 1970. Upon retirement he maintained a private investigator license and and was a licensed polygraph examiner. He split his time between Staten Island and Hollywood Florida for the remaining years of his life. He is survived by his wife Marion, two children John and Kathy, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A visitation for Angelo will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314. A mass of christian burial will occur Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, New Dorp Lane, SAtaten Island, NY 10306. An entombment will occur Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island, NY 10306.
