Arthur “Pete” William Robinson, age 85, of Dallas, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Robinson was born in Gaston County and was the son of the late Arthur William and Elva Thomas Robinson, Sr.
“Pete” proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He fought for our country on the beach of Normandy on D-Day during World War II. He proudly continued to serve and honor his fellow veterans as a member of the Honor Guard with the WWII Last Man Club until his health failed. He was a retired supervisor with U. S. Steel Manufacturing Company with 18 years service. He attended High Shoals United Methodist Church.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Jean Carter Robinson; sons, Mike Robinson and wife Ann of Mint Hill, Dr. Mike Carter and wife Kim and Todd Carter of New Mexico; one daughter, Kim Dellinger and husband Chris of Dallas; 10 grandchildren, William “Bo” Robinson, Robbie Robinson, Jarrett Huntley, Todd Huntley, Jason Huntley, Kara Carter-Huntley, Monica Carter, Angelica Carter, Brandon Dellinger, Alex Dellinger and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P. M. to 9:00 P. M. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home, Stanley.
Graveside services will be 3:00 P. M. Wednesday at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly with the Rev. Sheila Gould officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the WWII Last Man Club.
Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Nellie Miller Robinson; two sisters, Violet Hendricks, Ola Robinson; four brothers, Ernie Robinson, Deward Robinson, C. W. “Shorty” Robinson, Red Robinson.
