On August 3, 2022, Rose Yvonne passed away in the presence of her loved ones at home in Stamford, CT. Yvonne was a strong and prayerful Christian woman who devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family. Her favorite phrase was “Respect Life” and all that it entails: self-respect, resilience, humility, joy and love of all people regardless of background.
Rose Yvonne Jean-Pierre was born on September 5, 1929, in Mariaman, Haiti, to Philistin Jean-Pierre and Pierrestine Pierre. As a young girl, she grew up in times of difficult circumstances made even more challenging with the death of her father. After his passing, Yvonne assumed early responsibilities in support of her mother and younger siblings. Yvonne’s faith in God, instilled by her parents, and work ethic sustained and informed her lifelong dedication to her family and friends and empathy for those in need.
Yvonne met Bernard Lesperance in 1952 through mutual friends who chose them as godparents for their child. Soon after, they were married and started raising their family of nine children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti: Jean Jacques, Tony, Serge, Gisele, Monique, Joanne, Marlene, Pierre Paul and Ernst. Eventually, starting in 1969, the family emigrated from Haiti to the United States, settling in Stamford, CT.
Yvonne diligently worked in the housekeeping department at St. Joseph Hospital for 20 years, supporting patients with loving care before retiring in 1991. Union Baptist Church in Stamford became her church home and she worshipped there every Sunday when healthy and able. She will dearly be missed by her loved ones.
Rose Yvonne was pre-deceased by her (father), Philistin Jean-Pierre, (mother) Pierrestine Pierre; (children) Bernadette Lesperance and Gilbert Lesperance; siblings Cius Jean-Pierre, Soirine Guerrier, Denis Jean-Pierre, Desilus Jean-Pierre, Simon Jean-Pierre; and earlier this year her beloved youngest sibling, Nerestine Jean-Pierre.
Rose Yvonne is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bernard Lesperance; children Jean Jacques Lesperance (Josie), Tony Lesperance (Clothilde), Serge Lesperance (Michelle), Gisele Joseph (Michel), Monique Kouassi (Manzan), Joanne Lesperance, Marlene Lesperance, Pierre Lesperance (Diana), Ernst Lesperance (Charmaine); and 28 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 17 nieces and nephews.
