Norma Jean Hart, 88, of Stamford, CT died peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, with her family by her side. She will be remembered by her family, friends and students as a loving mother, encouraging friend and inspiring teacher. She enjoyed a fully active lifestyle all the way thru her recent illness working in an office part-time, teaching music, reading, baking, walking with special friends and always making time for family.
Norma Jean was born in Rochester, NY on October 11, 1926 to James Lucy and Philocia (Kintz) Lucy. Norma’s first love as a child was music. She earned a scholarship to attend the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester where she graduated in 1949. She taught piano, viola and clarinet upon graduation until she trekked to Germany in the 1950’s to work in the USAF Inspector General’s Office in Wiesbaden. Her experience with the German language then took her to Mexico where she worked for a German firm helping employees with the language. She returned home where she met her husband Gordon L. Hart of Ponca City, OK, started a family and moved to Stamford in 1968.
In Stamford, Norma has been an active member of the St. Francis Church for over 45 years. There she sang in the choir, volunteered and enjoyed fellowship with many beloved friends. She worked as an office manager with Twain Associates in Darien, served as treasurer for the Schubert Club of Fairfield County and continued teaching piano to promising young musicians in the area.
Norma is predeceased by her husband, Gordon L. Hart, and her brother Ernest Lucy of Kitchener, Ontario.
She is survived by her three children: Peter L. Hart and his wife Karen of Stamford; Tom Hart and his wife Deanna of Huntersville, NC; and Nicole Carlon and her husband Michael of Stamford. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Mallory, Emma and Ryan Hart of Stamford; triplets Grace, Patrick and Maggie Carlon of Stamford; and Ian Hart of Huntersville, NC.
A memorial service will be held 2pm, Saturday, February 7 at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2810 Long Ridge Road, Stamford, CT with an immediate reception to follow in the adjacent Assisi Hall. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be sent to St. Francis Sounds Good, the not-for profit music program of the St. Francis Church at address above.
