Mary I. Rodger passed away peacefully Jan 10, 2017 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Born November 29, 1927, in Stamford, she was the daughter of Robert and Grace Rodger of Ridge Park. She was born and raised in Stamford and was known to family and friends growing up as May Rodger. She along with her parents were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford. She graduated from Stamford High, attended the University of Bridgeport while waiting for the next nursing school class to start. Mary received her Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Norwalk Hospital in 1949. She married Irvine Clifford in 1950. They had four children.
Her love was always her children, grandchildren and family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, niece, cousin and friend. As an only child, throughout her life, she was very close to her cousins in the U.S., Scotland and Canada. She graduated from nursing school with eight other nurses. They were all lifelong friends and Mary never missed their nursing reunions.
Nursing was not only her career but was her passion. She worked in both Stamford Hospital and Norwalk Hospital. When the family moved to Newtown, she worked at Fairfield Hills State Hospital. Mary was a pediatric, geriatric and psychiatric nurse. When the family moved to St. Croix she worked at the Charles Harwood Memorial Hospital. Before she retired, she worked for several St. Croix local physicians. She lived in St. Croix until 2012.
Mary is survived by her four children: Nancy Grace Clifford Green and Robert Lawrence Green Jr. of Texas, Irvine Clifford V and Sandy Isle Clifford of St. Croix, Robert Rodger Clifford and Jackie Trybus Clifford of Florida and James Rehm Clifford of St. Croix. She has eleven grandchildren: Robert Lawrence Green III and his wife Melissa Broadway Green, Alexandra MacKenzie Green, Andrew MacLellan Green, Cassandra Grace Clifford, Katrina Ann Clifford, James Ian Clifford, Darren McKay and his wife Hannah, Robert Bruce Clifford, Aaron Isle, Ejdrain Grauers and Alex Grauers. She has three great grandchildren: Sidney, Landry and Reagan. She is also survived by five nephews, three nieces and numerous cousins.
Arrangements are being handled by Bouton and Reynolds Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, Connecticut. Services will be at the First Presbyterian Church located at 1101 Bedford Street at 10:30 am, Monday, January 23, 2017. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the Bouton and Reynolds Funeral Home on Sunday, January 22 from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
