Dr. Isolde Kurz Cooper passed away on May 19, 2023 after a short illness. Isolde was an over 50-year resident of Stamford. Isolde graduated from the University of Tubingen in Germany with both her first law degree and her doctorate in jurisprudence.
She passed her second state examination in 1965 and was an attorney with the intellectual property firm Lichtenstein & Koerner in Stuttgart, Germany, until 1971, when she came to the United States. Isolde was in-house counsel in the international legal department at Avon Products, Inc. for over 28 years from 1973 to 2001.
Among her many pursuits, Isolde was a lifelong lover of classical music and an avid amateur cellist for the last 25 years of her life. Isolde remained a citizen of Germany her entire life but became a dual US and German citizen for the last five years, having received her US citizenship in 2018.
Isolde will be greatly missed by all the people whose lives she touched. Isolde is survived by her son, Daniel Cooper, and her grandson, Benjamin George Donald Cooper (both of Stamford). Her husband of over 35 years, George Wilson Cooper, predeceased her in 2008.
Funeral services will be held on June 2, 2023 at 11am at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905. Interment immediately following at Long Ridge Union Cemetery, with reception to immediately follow thereafter at Madonia Restaurant & Bar, 1297 Long Ridge Road, Stamford, CT 06903.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be given in Isolde’s name to Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres, the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, or Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR).
