Hyacinth D. Wellington, age 92, of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a hard fought battle with cancer, on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Hyacinth was born on August 3, 1926 in Tela, Spanish Honduras, Central America. She was the second of two daughters born to Hyacinth Dockery. At the age of 3, Hyacinth and her mother left Honduras and moved to Kingston, Jamaica, where she attended public school and technical college. In August of 1956, to embark on a better life for her and her family, while her husband was away in London, England in the Royal Air Force, and leaving her first born behind, she immigrated to the United States to Stamford, CT. She was reunited with her family in 1957. In 1959, another addition was added to the family, another son. In 1970, Hyacinth obtained a sales associate position with Bloomingdale's and retired after 23 years. Since 1957, she was a member of St. Andrew's Church in Stamford and was a member of its choir and Alter Guild. She is survived by her two sons, Alvin L. Wellington, his wife Ruthie A. Smith-Wellington and Michael O. Wellington of Stamford; two granddaughters; a great grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband - Alvin M. Wellington, her sister - Theresa Fender and her mother - Hyacinth Dockery. Calling hours will be 9 to 10am Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. Andrew's Church, 1231 Washington Blvd; Stamford CT. A sung Eucharist will be at 10am. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave., Stamford CT.
