Roland Thomas Stanford passed away peacefully at Marian Manor Assisted Living Facility on September 8th 2017. Mr. Stanford was born in Arlington, Virginia in 1933. He retired from D.A. Foster Company in 1983 and became an exceptional “mr.mom”. He spent many years as a member of the Arlington county volunteer fire department, was a mason and a long standing parishioner of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, where he served as a head usher and deacon. He held office in several community organizations, through the years, most notably the Travelers Protection Association and the Ruritan club.
Roland loved to fish and spent most of his enjoyable days at Jeanette’s fishing pier in Nags Head, North Carolina. He was the most loving husband, father and grandfather with a gruff exterior and a heart of gold. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother Shirley and Bessie; one sister Laura; two brothers Shirley Jr., and Marshall and son, Dwayne Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Amanda Marie (Who he met on a blind date), son Steve Stanford, daughter Robin Webb (Lance), Dawn Sharpless (David) and his beloved grandchildren Jacob Ryan Stanford, Amanda Brooke Sharpless and Brandon Michael Sharpless. A funeral service will be held at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 13,2017 at 12:00 pm with a visitation from 10:30 am till 12:00pm burial will follow at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery.
