Jeffrey Alan Dean

Jeffrey A. Dean, 64, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 3, 1959, to Thomas Egbert Dean and Edith Virginia Dawson, in Arlington, Virginia. He was a beloved spouse, father, brother, uncle, adored grandparent, and dear friend to many. Known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love, Jeff left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to cross paths with him. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering love have touched countless lives, leaving behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Predeceased by his parents, Aunt Jeannine and his brother Stephen, Jeff's memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife, Polly, his children, Kellen Elwell and Thomas (Tommy) Dean, his son-in-law James Elwell and grandchildren Hunter, Casey and Hayden, his brother Michael Dean, sister-in-law Jewell Dean and sisters Nancy Good, Sharon Dean and Susan Fox along with host of nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues who he truly cherished. Jeffrey embodied the spirit of a Renaissance man, excelling in a myriad of disciplines including history, music, woodworking, and sculpting crafting treasures that brought joy to his loved ones. His diverse talents and generous spirit led him on a remarkable professional journey as well. From his humble beginnings as a carpenter, a role he always embraced, he swiftly climbed the ranks to oversee multimillion-dollar ventures for esteemed institutions such as the University of Maryland, James Madison’s Montpelier, The George Washington University, and various contractors. Jeffrey concluded his distinguished career at MBP, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jeff's expertise in history extended to the media, evident in his appearance on the History Channel's documentary "The President Slept Here.” Recently, he was also acknowledged by the authors of the Great Rock of Aquia for facilitating access to crucial areas of the Gibson’s Quarry tract. This enabled them to deepen their understanding of Gibson’s significance within the industry and illuminate the quarry methods employed in Stafford, including on his own property. His property served as one of the primary locations for Virginia Aquia sandstone extraction, crucial in the construction of many iconic landmarks in D.C., such as the White House and the U.S. Capitol building. A gathering to honor and commemorate Jeff's life will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, located at 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA 22554. Visitation will commence at 11:00 am, followed by a service at noon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jeff’s honor to Tunnel to Towers or any group reminiscent of his spirit.
