Marcela Navarro Cachero, “Nanay” (Marcela Braganza Navarro), was born October 20, 1923 to the late Dionisio & Felomina Braganza Navarro in Tayug, Pagasinan, Philippines. Marcela was the youngest of three children (brother – Dionisio, Jr. & sister – Encarnacion). She attended Tayug Elementary up until the 4th grade. She started to help her mom make money by selling meat, in the local market from 6am – 2pm, seven days a week. During her spare time, Marcela loved to garden and was known for her exceptional cooking skills.
On December 17, 1949, at the age of 27yrs old, she married Felipe “Tatay” Cachero. She gave birth to eight children who later became successful in their respected professions. Marcela continued to sell meat to help provide for her family, as well as, to put food on the table. She had a generous heart, especially when it came to her family.
When the idea of immigrating to the United States was introduced to her, she was hesitant because of her age, the language barrier, a new environment and most importantly, leaving her husband, who was ill, at the time. On November 17, 1984, her beloved husband passed away. Her eldest daughter, Ana, who was already a citizen, in the United States, petitioned Marcela. Marcela made her way to the U.S. in 1987. Marcela adapted quickly, and eventually considered the United States as her second home. There, she helped raise her grandchildren Stephanie, Kimberly, Phillip, John-Felipe, Andrew & Thomas.
She completed her Earthly journey and was sent Home to be with Our Lord, on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her 8 children: Ana Cachero Roduta (Rene), Victor (Lilia), Nestor (Priscilla), Ernesto (Natividad), Sonia Cachero Regalado (Zoe), Alfred (Vicky), Helen Cachero Tibayan (Ricardo), and Mildred Cachero De Guzman (Reynaldo); her 21 grandchildren: Kimberly Roduta Wormley (Ryan), Phillip (Mary), Thomas, Michelle, Kathleen Cachero Dilan (Anthonee), Beverly Cachero Castaneto (Romeo),Vily Kaylle, Stephanie Cachero Kunicki (Taylor), John-Felipe, Andrew (Leanne), Jackeline, Mark, Pamela, Dave, Natalie, Alfred Jr., Gee Lou Tibayan Lilagan (Leo), Whitney Tibayan Sy Su (Richard), John Rick, Patricia and Paul; and her 17 great-grandchildren: Kamryn & Khloe Wormley, Emilie, Samantha, & Olivia Roduta, Mikaella & Mikhael Cachero, Elisha Dilan, Andrea & Javis Castaneto, Noah & Arya Kunicki, Lelilani, Liam & Lana Cachero, Joaquin-Felipe Cachero, and Ulrich Lilagan.
Marcela will always be remembered as a beautiful woman with her simplicity & sweet smile, a loving mother and grandmother, a good friend to many, a wonderful cook, an optimist full of humor, and an individual who showed so much love. She will be missed by many, but her legacy will live on forever.
