Dad lived life to the fullest. He was fearless. He came to the United States at the age of 16 not knowing anyone nor a word of English. What he did have were hopes and dreams a good working head and a strong work ethic. He started off by sweeping floors to eventually becoming a supervisor. His passion and love became gears. He worked and studied hard to become a master of his trade.
After spending a few years in Detroit, he left for Houston where he met the love of his life and his biggest supporter, Mary Helen Schnur, and after a few years courting, they married in 1960. Dad was a family man when he was not working.
Then here I came along with my 3 brothers, Clark, Frank and Joey.
From his modest beginnings and now having a young family, it all changed when he planted the seed and founded Houston Fine Pitch Gear, Inc. July 23, 1976. It started with 2 machines in our garage until it grew and needed an actual facility.
Though dad worked very hard, there was one thing he did not do, he did not miss our events; from baseball to football to father-daughter events, that was our father’s most important passion, his family. He was also a baseball fan, and definitely a DETROIT TIGER fan to the end.
He always encouraged or pushed us to work and study hard expecting the next generation to do even better than the last.
We live good lives today because of the sacrifices, hard work and seeds they planted years ago.
As hard as it is for us to accept that our parents have passed, we rejoice in the belief that they are finally back together again hugging and loving each other. We would not be surprised if mama after saying “I love you”, her next words would be, “Come on, Pepe, lets go dancing”. Rest in Peace, mom and dad. We will always be thankful and always love you guys. Until we meet again.
