her side on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in Houston, Texas.
Glenda was born August 16,1938, in Houston, Texas to Thomas and
Nella Zambon. She attended Austin High School in Houston, where she
was awarded Most Beautiful Senior and joined the Scottish Brigade, as Drum Captain.
Shortly after high school, Glenda married Frank Maraldo in October of 1956 and raised
two daughters, Leslie and Lisa.
She valued higher education and encouraged her children to pursue their professional
dreams. Glenda received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The University of
Houston in 1971, and embarked on a successful 40 year career in Engineering.
Glenda was an accomplished writer and particularly loved writing and publishing
beautiful poems. She wrote a few children’s books for the great grandchildren to enjoy
and spent decades working on a novel chronicling how her maternal grandparents
migrated to America from Italy.
She loved traveling abroad, particularly to Colombia, enjoyed many cultures, spending
time at the beach, listening to music, as well as dancing and entertaining family and
friends.
Glenda was a positive thinker; her glass was never half empty, always half full. She
raised her daughters to be true to themselves, to have integrity in everything they do
and to be strong, independent women, like herself.
What people remember most about Glenda is her kindness and warm personality. She
had a deep love for people and quality time with family. One family member describes
her as “lighting up a room when she entered.” She had a gift of making people laugh
and had compassion for helping those in need. Glenda also loved to host parties for
holidays and special occasions. In fact, she is somewhat famous among immediate
family members for her entertaining Christmas parties over the years.
Glenda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Thomas and Nella Zambon;
cousins, Edda Maraldo and Gina Cutropia. She is survived by her dear friend Amparo
Franco; brother, Edward Zambon; daughters, Leslie Selmser and Lisa Merino;
grandchildren, Kelli Murdock, Thomas Merino, Meagan Broadaway and Lisa Mason;
five great grandchildren; and eight cousins.
